2024 Report: The Impact of Your Donations on Inclusion, Research, and the Heritage of the School

Once again this year, the ENS Foundation and the École Normale Supérieure were able to carry out numerous initiatives thanks to the donations from generous donors and patrons.

Supporting social diversity and gender parity through scholarships, promoting the development of research and scientific innovation, and preserving and enhancing the École’s heritage have all been made possible thanks to the support of hundreds of alumni, companies, foundations, and friends of the École.

“The École is, wants to be, and must be diverse, attracting and welcoming all talents, bringing together and combining all professions and strengths to be of the greatest benefit to society.”

Frédéric Worms, director of the ENS-PSL

Support for students

The ENS Foundation’s scholarship programs, which have been in place for several years, help reduce the gap in living and study conditions for the students at the École. These programs are entirely funded through donations.

During the 2023-2024 academic year, 221 students received a living stipend (a supplement of up to 75% of the CROUS scholarship amount) or a thematic scholarship (Women in STEM scholarships, scholarships in Computer Science, AI, and Mathematics, or Olympic scholarships).

Support for research and innovation

“Corporate and individual philanthropy is essential to support the School’s ambitions in research, education, and innovation. Thanks to the support of donors, ENS contributes to finding solutions to the major challenges of our century.”

Anne Christophe, Deputy Director of Sciences at ENS-PSL.

The QBio laboratory, Europe’s first quantitative biology center, was able to expand its teams in 2024 with the recruitment of post-docs, and made significant progress in its research on immunity thanks to the financial support of patrons.

Within the École normale supérieure, the innovative Medicine and Humanities program continues thanks to donations, with the recruitment of 10 medical students for the 2023 and 2024 academic years.

Support for the school’s heritage

The ENS-PSL has 9 libraries and numerous associated archives. In 2024, within the emblematic historical library, 11 giraffe ladders were able to benefit from a complete restoration. This was carried out in accordance with artisanal tradition. Around fifteen rare works dating from the 18th and 19th centuries were also restored. Further, dedicated conferences focus on taking inventory of and valuing archives. Notably, the Michel Serres archives and those of the female students (also known as Sévriennes) are tended to.
