AI and Chemistry: A New Research Chair Supported by Air Liquide
École normale supérieure – PSL and the ENS Foundation have launched the “Artificial Intelligence for Chemistry and through Chemistry” research chair, with support from Air Liquide. The first chair established under normalesup.ai, it brings together fundamental research and industrial expertise with a shared goal: to open new avenues for the discovery of molecules and materials.
Bringing Artificial Intelligence and Chemistry Together
Artificial intelligence is reshaping how scientists explore the properties of matter. By combining advances in AI with fundamental knowledge in chemistry, the new chair will seek, in particular, to develop models that require less data and better account for the laws of physics and chemistry. This research could help accelerate the discovery of molecules and materials that address industrial, energy, and environmental challenges.

The First Research Chair under normalesup.ai
The chair is the first established under normalesup.ai, the interdisciplinary initiative launched by ENS–PSL in January 2026 to connect artificial intelligence research with all of the institution’s academic disciplines. It will also help train students, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers at the intersection of AI and chemistry.

A Partnership Supporting Research and Education
By facilitating this collaboration between ENS and Air Liquide, the ENS Foundation helps bring together the resources needed to advance ambitious research. Air Liquide’s support will help deepen knowledge at the intersection of AI and chemistry, while preparing a new generation of scientists to work across these disciplines.
