Helping ENS achieve its ambitions for socio-economic diversity

After the creation of the university track in 2015, each year ENS recruits students of all disciplines, humanities and scientific studies, from university or classe préparatoire aux grandes écoles. These students are chosen by departments of the school based on their academic background and their motivations in research formation. By joining ENS, they can deepen their knowledge in their domain and be exposed to other disciplines that prepare them for the ENS graduate degree. The number of openings, approximately 150 per year across all disciplines, for each entry and each year by the board of directors.

Amongst the students that are enrolled in the ENS graduate program, ¼ of students receive a scholarship through ENS Foundation.

Each year, ENS has the goal of assisting national scholarship holders (CROUS) with a supplemental scholarship (benefiting approximately more than 100 students).

Objectives/Goals:

The program of supplemental scholarships from ENS Foundation is outlined in ENS’s Plan for Socioeconomic Diversity that ENS put in place in July 2021. From now until 2025, with the assistance of all actors and partners of ENS and thanks to the help of our donors, ENS aspires to meet 50% of scholarship holders needs per year (in comparison to 30% today). Through this program, it works towards reinforcing an open-door policy of ENS. Thanks to these scholarships, a wider range of student profiles, including a greater number of female applicants, are at ENS.

The objective is to double the annual number of scholarships, which varies from €1032- €5679 per student per year, depending on the level of the scholarship. The funding for this program is €300,00 per year, thanks to multi-year commitments to build up a fund that will make this scholarship aid sustainable for all students involved.

Your Donations go towards:

€300,000 per year works to provide a base of funds to sustain scholarship holders and double the amount available to students each year:

10 donations of €100 allow you to support a student scholarship for one year

In the Plan for Socioeconomic Diversity at ENS (2021-2025):

  • €150,000 per year allows for the finalization of 3 communication campaigns per year for high school and university students
  • €90,000 per year allow for a team to identify high-achieving students and mobilize the normaliens community to support them (through mentoring and tutoring)

” I am a student of L3 at the department of Geosciences and I started in 2021. I would love to continue my studies in the realm of geophysics and particularly to study seismic of seismo-volcanic hazards. The scholarship provided by ENS Foundation has allowed me to continue my studies and to truly invest in my them, something that I am unsure I would have been able to do otherwise. It has allowed me to participate in an internship at ETNA that is organized between students of the department every year. I would like to especially thank donors for their generosity, which has allowed me to flourish in both my studies and social life. “

Angélique Marck

” I entered the L3 Geosciences course at ENS after a preparatory course for PSI (physique et sciences de l’ingénieur) at Louis Le Grand high school. I would like to continue my studies in the field of ocean and atmospheric physics, to better understand the phenomena involved in the context of climate change. I benefit from a supplementary grant which allows me to concentrate on my studies without constantly worrying about financial matters, to be able to have access to quality food and therefore have a healthier lifestyle. I would like to extend gratitude to all the donors for their generosity which enables students like me to live in Paris with peace of mind “

” I am a student in the M1 department of philosophy. I am particularly interested in contemporary philosophy in the continental tradition. I am very happy to have received financial assistance through my scholarship because it has allowed me to buy very useful texts for building my memory skills. I have the intention of becoming a philosophy researcher. I want to thank ENS donors for their act of generosity. “

” After being a student in the Geosciences department at ENS after L3, I began my second masters of Geology/Geophysics. This year I’m receiving financial support from ENS Foundation, which means a lot to me. Not only does this help finance my essential expenses, but it also means I can look forward to continuing my studies with greater peace of mind. As a result, next year I’ll be able to start my doctoral studies. I would particularly like to thank the donors for their generosity and support in helping me to succeed in my studies. “

” My name is Rémy L, and I’m currently enrolled in L3 Biology at ENS. I entered ENS through the student competitive entrance examination after starting my bachelor’s degree at the University of Paris-Sud in Biology in the specific Bioplus course. This additional scholarship enabled me to consider doing my internship in Montpellier in a marine biology laboratory on the impact of climate change on coral fish. Indeed, after my studies at ENS, I hope to go on to do a PhD in marine ecology and evolution to pursue research in this field and better understand how species interact with each other and with their environment, especially in the context of climate change. I’d like to thank the donors of ENS Foundation for their help in making my dream come true. “

Rémy L.
