Acquisitions and restoration of precious works

Preserving the treasures of the ENS libraries

Many rare and remarkable works belonging to the library’s precious collections require restoration, with a meticulous process. This work requires the expertise of specialists in book restoration. Specific procedures are carried out to result in the production of complete restoration files documenting the work done. For a complex work, restoration can cost up to several thousand euros. Exhibitions, scientific and cultural events, our libraries are alive with your support and always delighted to welcome you.

Goal:

Continue the development of archives, the restoration of old works, registers from the heritage funds of the Ulm-LSH library, editions from the 16th century, books from the 17th century, volumes of memoirs on the history of France dated from the beginning of the 19th century…

Your donations go towards:

Supporting acquisitions and financing the restoration of precious works

A donation of €100 to €2,500 can restore one book.

Alain Baudant’s sponsorship enables an archivist palaeographer to work on enhancing the archives of Sainte-Claire Deville, director of the ENS chemistry department in the second half of the 19th century and “creator” of aluminum. The project will focus on the scholar’s letters, and an edition of them will be produced, thus enhancing and disseminating a major part of the archives stored at the library.

” The library is a unique space for students to socialize. To allow it to fulfill its purpose effectively, an ambitious renovation is necessary to preserve and restore its historical books, as well as enhance the overall space. “
