AI : conference with Anne Bouverot and Yann LeCun gathers ENS alumni in NY

The ENS Foundation was proud to co-host a special evening on Artificial Intelligence, on October 16th 2024, at Villa Albertine in New York, alongside the Dauphine Foundation USA, the AI and Society Institute and the Abeona Foundation. École normale supérieure alumni, donors and friends attended the event. 

In the presence of Judith Roze, the Villa’s Deputy Director, as well as Laurent Bili, French Ambassador in the United States, about a hundred participants were able to attend an exclusive talk featuring thought-leaders at the forefront of current studies and applications of AI for the common good. Tanya Perelmuter, member of the AI and Society Institute, moderated the conversations.  

Yann LeCun AI expert at Meta, emphasized that : “AI must be accessible to everyone, so that all can contribute to building the AI systems of tomorrow”. Anne Bouverot Chair of the Board at ENS and Special Envoy of the President of France for the upcoming Global AI Action Summit, discussed the opportunities AI offers for the future of work, stressing the importance of education to foster inclusive adoption of the technology. Participants were also able to hear from Hélène Landemore a former student of École Normale Supérieure and professor in the Political Science Department at Yale University, who explored the relationship between democracy and AI, stating that this technology can strengthen collective action. Finally, Jamal Atif Professor and Vice President at Université Paris Dauphine- PSL addressed the risks AI poses in terms of security and the environment.
