ENS Campus Renovation

The Ulm-Jourdan library

The history, foreign literature, ancient languages and literature rooms in the Ulm-Jourdan library are in need of renovation, which has been given a new unity and coherence. This results in a pleasant, functional working environment that respects the history of the building and its collections, essential for studying and working.

Goal:

The renovation will provide an opportunity to optimize available space and increase shelving capacity, with direct access to books remaining a strong point appreciated by our community.

A budget of 2 million euros is required.

Your donations go towards:

  • part of the renovation work on the Salle des Actes. Under the bust of Fustel de Coulanges, and adorned with marble plaques bearing the names of Archicube academics, the Salle des Actes is an emblematic place of ENS.
  • renovation of the interior and exterior of the historic rue d’Ulm building
  • the purchase of a concert piano…

« The renovation of Room 2 of the humanities library is a good example of how fundraising and the generosity of donors can make a difference. The work carried out includes the following: the installation of an isophonic floor, restoration of shelving to its original shades, purchase of new furniture, in conjunction with the existing layout, emblematic of the interior metal architecture of the 1950s. Now equipped with numerous electrical outlets and comfortable armchairs on the mezzanines, the room has seen a steady increase in visitors since its renovation, to everyone’s satisfaction. If the collections of ancient language and literature offered here can be enhanced, other sectors, such as history and foreign literature (rooms 4 and 5), deserve similar support. »
