Carbon Storage in Soils and the Subsurface Chair

Carbon Storage in Soils and the Subsurface Chair
Supported by Ardian

Established in 2024, this research chair is dedicated to carbon storage in soils and the subsurface, also known as carbon capture. The chair benefits from the patronage of Ardian, one of the world’s leading private investment firms. This initiative marks the beginning of a six-year partnership during which Ardian will support the advanced research conducted by the Geology Laboratory, a component of the Geosciences Department at ENS-PSL.

The primary objective of this chair is to deepen understanding of the mechanisms of carbon storage in the subsurface and soils, a key challenge in the fight against global warming. In the current context, where solutions are actively being sought to mitigate the effects of climate change, the chair will focus on studying the potential impacts of CO₂ injection into soils.

The chair is led by Jérôme Fortin, CNRS Research Director at the Geology Laboratory of ENS-PSL.
