Geopolitics of Risk Chair

Geopolitics of Risk Chair
Supported by Axa

The Chair in Geopolitics of Risk stems from a partnership signed in December 2016, for a ten-year period, between ENS, the ENS Foundation, and the AXA Research Fund.

The main research objectives of the ENS–AXA Chair in Geopolitics of Risk are to document and analyze the geopoliticization of risk by mobilizing the tools and methods of political science, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, and law. To achieve these objectives, the Chair seeks to identify emerging as well as ongoing societal issues that represent the most pressing concerns related to risk and uncertainty, and to organize research and resources to address them. The Chair’s research pays particular attention to the implications that new challenges related to risk and uncertainty pose for political, legal, and ethical values.

These challenges increasingly take the form of diverse concerns related to the development and integration of new digital technologies. The impact of digitization, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, and related fields on society has become a growing focus of the sub-projects associated with the Chair. Research on risk management related to the analysis of crises and disasters, as well as risk management in humanitarian action, remains a central theme, alongside issues surrounding new forms of political applications of digital technologies.
